Welcome to your new job, Ashley McMillan! Dirt Diver is eagerly awaiting the release of the FEC audit results and the latest update to the Kansas Republican Party’s cash on hand. In the meantime, here’s a funny:
I believe we need to give it just a little time before we criticize too much. Kris Kobach & Christian Morgan really got the Party into a lot of trouble & debt. Lets see if Amanda and Ashley can save the Republican Party!
Sorry, but I’m not buying the blame being laid at the feet of Kobach. While I’m sure Morgan screwed up some paperwork, I don’t see how that translates into the party being flat broke for the past year.
And before we get too excited about Amanda Adkins, let’s not forget she made the boneheaded decision to hire CiCi Rojas, perhaps the worst Executive Director in the history of the party. Not only does she have questionable ties to the liberal Stowers Institute, but she also hasn’t been able to keep the party budget in the black either.
I may eat my words when the FEC audit comes out – they may lay the blame firmly at Morgan’s feet, but by and large it’s been a full year since he left – more than enough time to right the ship and raise a ton of cash.
Ben, < ---[note from Dirt Diver: Who is this "Ben" you keep referring to???]
Let me try to explain this so even you can understand. The core problems within the party can be traced back the better part of a decade. Was Kris completely responsible? No. Can the vast majority of these problems be laid at his feet? Yes.
Kris had decided being Party Chair was a way for him to advance his own political career. He did nothing as Chair. He refused to raise money, hold required meetings, and did nothing to fix the the Parties lack of record keeping and did in fact fire those responsible for FEC compliance.
Christian's "screw ups" as you so cavalierly refer to them, cost the Party tens of thousands of dollars in fines and back taxes. Not to mention the large sums of debt he did not pay to good Kansans for work they had done under contract for the Party.
After many years of piss poor leadership the Party and its fundraising efforts have suffered in the last 12 months, but it's not because Amanda Adkins cannot raise money. I believe her track record speaks for itself. Oh and by the way did you forget the country is in a RECESSION! So yes, the Party may be broke, but at least they have been able to reset and move forward from the nightmare which was Kobach/Morgan.
The decision to hire Cici Rojas wasn't a boneheaded one as you put it. Cici had a great deal of experience; more in fact than some previous ED's.
She may not have been successful in her post, but who could given the giant mess left behind. The FEC announced their audit within a week or so of her arrival.
You are such a bitter person. You’ve alienated legislators and party leaders, even conservatives with your obnoxious personality. Sound familiar? Get a girl my friend, lose the blog.
I’m saying there is no excuse for the party to be in debt at all – they rule the state. They are totally dominant and should be flush with cash. Why aren’t they?
And I’m saying you don’t know a damn thing about Kansas politics or fundraising. It’s because they “rule the state” that it can be difficult to raise money. Especially with past piss poor leadership. Most donors have given directly to their candidate of choice. As I pointed out, we are in a recession, so there is only so many dollars to go around. Therefore, it takes time to rebuild the treasury when the previous chair didn’t fundraise at all. Get it? Or do I have to get out the scholastic reader version for you Ben?
So you say the party can’t raise money because they have no competition? That just seems rather silly to me. If the state were dominated 100% by Republicans, perhaps you’d have a point. But there are still liberals that can be rooted out. There are still issues that the party can use to appeal to their donor base. Lack of competition… recession… Kobach… Morgan…
Nothing but excuses.
But there is just no excuse for running a political party into near bankruptcy. I get it, you’re blaming Kobach and Morgan for leaving the GOP in dire straights – I’m not sure that’s a valid claim after a full year under Adkins and Rojas. Are you still blaming Bush for the recession too? Or do you think that after a full year as President of the United States, perhaps Barack Obama deserves a share of the blame?
And in all seriousness, you really ought to lighten up a bit. That’s the problem with some people in politics. They take themselves WAAAAY to seriously. And you’re a prime example.
And another thing…if you think I give a rip about “alienating” party leaders and legislators, you’re clueless.
I couldn’t care what any of them think – but then again, perhaps you’re not referring to the Dirt Diver but to some fantasy you’ve imagined me to be?
Let’s get this out in the open right now:
1) My name is not “Ben.”
2) You’re bitter and nasty and seem to be a bit sensitive to jokes made about key people in the party – meaning you take yourself and the party way too seriously. Trust me, I don’t care who you are, neither you nor your precious “party” are that important.
3) The very purpose of this blog is entertain and enlighten. Thanks for helping with the entertainment part.
Alienating Party Leaders and Legislators, was a quote from an article written by Steve Rose in April of 2009 about who I and many others believe is the author of this blog..Ben Hodge. Come on, who else quotes Ben Hodge but..Ben Hodge?!
By YOUR bitterness and resentment of Party and Legislative leaders it seems to me that you’ve been scorned by them somewhere down the road, as you have nothing positive to say about anyone.
The problem with your blog is that you treat yourself like the Wall Street Journal, by “breaking news”. Then, when someone calls you on the carpet for erroneous and slanted content in said blog you claim satire. You cannot be both the WSJ and the Onion. Judging by the content it’s my belief you’re closer to the Onion.
I’m only sensitive when your content tells half the story and disparages hard working people. Words you deem to be funny, have consequences..unless you choose to be the Kansas version of the Onion.
Ben, you need a girlfriend…badly.

And who’s “Ben?” Did you mean “Ren?”
So your saying that Republican party received all its debt in one year. If its Morgan’s fault then it is also Kobach’s fault. He hired him!
