SHOCK: Kansas GOP asks Obama for bailout
Dirt Diver has learned that Kansas GOP chairwoman Amanda Adkins took an emergency flight to Washington D.C. this week to attend a meeting with Peter Orszag, White House Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The meeting was set up by RNC chairman Michael Steele at Adkins’ request.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, Adkins and Steele pleaded with Orszag to funnel millions of taxpayer dollars from the $787 billion TARP fund into the coffers of the bankrupt Kansas Republican Party.
“This was a long-shot play, but our friends in Kansas are hurting. They can’t pay the phone bill, sometimes they have to go across the street to Panera bread just to get a free internet connection,” said Michael Steele. “As Republicans, it was my duty to try and secure a meeting with the White House, which has been quite generous with bail out money over the past year. We may be political enemies, but we had to try.”
Rank-and-file Republicans from across Kansas are outraged at the news over the state party’s embarrassing financial problems.
“It’s time for a tea party at GOP headquarters in Topeka. That’s what I think,” said Neil Gross, a long-time Republican from Great Bend. “Going to the President to ask for taxpayer dollars just so the Kansas Republican Party can keep their lights on? This is an insult.”
Others across the state were not so generous. Martha Kenworth, a 76-year old grandmother from Overland Park, said the party leaders should be fired. “Them women up there running the show…I don’t know their names…but they ought to lose their jobs over this. It’s humiliating to go to Democrats with hat in hand and ask for free money. That’s just not the Republican way.”
Doug Whitman, a former precinct committeeman in Emporia agrees. “The day our party leaders beg for handouts from the feds is the day I tear up my party membership card,” he said, as small bits of paper with pieces of the GOP logo fell from his hands like snowflakes to the ground.
Former Kansas GOP Executive Director Christian Morgan told Dirt Diver, “This is one of the most humiliating chapters in the history of the Kansas Republican Party, ranking just behind former Senator Robert Dole’s appearance in those disturbing Viagra ads.”

Ahh.. I get it, you are the Kansas Onion! No serious journalism taking place here folks. Please visit the Dirt Diver for your daily haha!
I find this probably untrue, but I have no proof. Why is Christian Morgan even talking at this point? It was his and Kobach’s stupidity that got the Republican Party into this trouble. He needs to go away, which I if history means anything, he will after the primaries!
“Serious journalism?” Come on…this is a political entertainment and enlightenment blog. Maybe you guys never noticed the “Satire” category?
All I am saying is everyone is giving Christian Morgan way to much slack for what he has done. I can laugh at a lot of things and myself is one of them. I can not laugh when two arrogant men destroy a foundation that Kansans have been supporting for generations.
Ren, I don’t think I’ve given Christian Morgan too much slack. I’ve done many posts at his expense. Use the search box in the upper right corner to check them all out.
You’re correct I understand the satire. You’re the Kansas Onion!
Thanks for finally getting it…but keep in mind the Diver also breaks news here (just ask CiCi Rojas). The blog is a little bit of everything – “infotainment” might be a good way to describe the Diver.
As I’ve said before the problem with your format, is that you try to be both. I don’t get my news from the Onion or Stephen Colbert and I don’t think anyone reading this blog can either.
Is that why Glenn Beck’s show is a failure?
No, his show is failure because he is a drama queen. Thats the problem with news today. Everyone wants to stir dust, but no one comes up with a real solution!
Maybe you haven’t seen this chart of Glenn Beck’s ratings as of February 1, 2010:

Your not Glenn Beck. You’re more Colbert or Stewart, not Beck. Beck tries to have ALL the facts before he “breaks” a story. You on the other hand print rumor and innuendo then call it news. You receive a tip from an “insider” (which on Party issues, I can guarantee you they are not) and then print that information without backing it up with facts. Just my .02
This post was funny, for what it’s worth. You might have a future with the satire. I’d read it.
I understand Glenn’s show has high ratings. I was just trying to say he is more of the same. Hey look at this its horrible and Im going to let you know how horrible it is, but I have nothing to contribute to make it better. He just rials people up and thats it. I would not say his show is bad. He does very well for his viewers. I just wish he would take his own advice and doing something good for his country. May opinion, there are much worse people out there. Cough, Obama, Cough!
OK, point taken. If I had a decent sized staff, and the research team that FOX News has, then I can assure you we’d strive for a bit more accuracy. But since that’ll never happen, people will just have to come here for the entertainment and occasionally leave with some news…
Glad to see you both starting to lighten up a bit.
